The Health Ministry is just a year away from reaching its aim in reducing the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases in the country.

The Ministry's NCD strategic plan aims to reduce the prevalence of major NCDs by 10%, reduce the prevalence of major risk factors by 5% and improve early detection of NCD complications.

A Ministry report on NCDs, shows that currently there is an average of 800 admissions to health facilities each year because of high blood pressure and stroke, 1,700 admissions due to heart attacks while 1,300 with other heart diseases, 500 new diabetes cases where more than 100 people per year have to go through amputations and about 350 cancer cases with breast and cervical cancer topping the list.
