The Health Ministry is urging people to take precautionary and preventative measures to prevent a disease outbreak.

The Ministry said people must protect food and boil drinking water, ensure the safety of your families and observe as far as possible, good hygiene standards and practices.

These measures must be taken as diseases such as typhoid, leptospirosis, dengue, diarrhea and scabies can spread easily amongst the communities at this time.

Also people are still being asked to refrain from using the Sigatoka River for washing, bathing, cleaning and drinking as an outbreak of diseases can happen since the sewerage pipe on the old Sigatoka Bridge broke when the bridge collapsed during flooding resulting in the sewerage water entering the River.
