The Nausori Town Council's Health Department has denied claims that supermarkets in Nausori, switch off their freezers at night to save electricity.
Health Inspector Akash Chandra, said they have regular checks and so far they have not received any complaints from consumers or come across any problems where freezers are switched off at night and switched on again in the mornings.
Chandra's comment comes after The Consumer Council of Fiji raised concern that major supermarkets operating along the Suva-Nausori corridor have been reported to be switching off their freezers and refrigirators at the end of each trading day and turning it on the next morning.
According to the Council's Chief Executive Officer, Premila Kumar, they found out after a market surveillance and adds turning off freezers is a serious breach of the Pure Foods Legislation.
