A 24 year old businessman of Vitogo, Lautoka, died at about 4 o'clock this morning after the car he was driving collided with a 10 wheeler truck laden with pine logs.

Police Media Liaison Officer Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed the accident occurred at the Nadi Back road when the deceased with another passenger were heading towards Lautoka.

Police suspect the driver was speeding and lost control of his car and as a result his car collided head-on with the 10 wheeler truck.

He was taken to the Nadi hospital but was later transferred to the Lautoka hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are questioning the 46 year old truck driver while the passenger who was with the deceased is admitted at Nadi hospital.

The national road death toll is now 36 compared to 33 during the same period last year.
