Jarryd Hayne had a painful start to his San Francisco 49ers debut, fumbling his first punt return against the Minnesota Vikings.
Hayne misjudged the kick and attempted a diving catch coming forward which he dropped to hand possession to the opposition.
His error did not cost his team as they also managed to force a turnover a few plays later.
Since the fumble, Hayne has been mistake free and appeared comfortable on the field.
After a week‑long game of cat‑and‑mouse, the former NRL star was named in 46‑man squad for today's game at Levi's Stadium.
The 49ers announced on twitter the seven players on the inactive list for the clash, with Hayne not among them.
The list of those sitting out featured DeAndrew White and Make Davis, two players competing for the same positions as Hayne.
49ers head coach Jim Tomsula this week refused to reveal whether Hayne would be picked to play the Vikings, despite the Aussie starring in pre‑season to earn his place on the club's 53‑man roster.
In four preseason games, Hayne led the 49ers with 175 rushing yards.
He also averaged 18.1 yards per punt return on nine attempts.
Hayne's selection for round one continues his remarkable and rapid transition from rugby league to American football.
He is just the 11th Australian to feature in a regular season game.
