Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is expected to discuss the hardware report with Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama which has prepared by Commerce Commission.
Sayed-Khaiyum said government had announced assistance in this year’s budget that people under certain income level will receive grants from government, however this was stopped as they were waiting for this report to be finalised.
Commerce Commission Chairman, Dr Mahendra Reddy highlighted in the report five key issues, that there are exclusive dealings, markups as high as 34,000 percent on certain items like fasteners, paints, tools, electrical appliances, roofing materials, timber and steel which have high to exorbitant markups, violation of accounting practices, profit shifting by larger operators to off-shore companies and importation of sub-standard products.
