Several hardware items will now be placed under price control.
Following the assessment by the Commerce Commission and the Commerce Ministry where it was earlier highlighted that some hardware items have mark-ups in excess of about 34,000 percent, Commerce Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the government has now decided that various hardware items will be under price control.
He said final maximum price controls for the items are expected to be determined by the Commerce Commission in the near future.
The items to be under price control are expected to be made public soon.
This is expected to result in a drop in prices of various hardware items.
