Assistant All Blacks coach Steve Hansen confirmed he wants to coach New Zealand in the long term.

While Graham Henry is still to declare his hand in the wake of the successful World Cup campaign, there seems to be a growing feeling he will step aside.

Steve Hansen the assistant coach to Graham Henry for eight years said he is not sure what the process is, but would like to have a crack at the job.

Even head coach Henry said, Steve will make a very good coach.

Hansen will now join Henry to help coach the British Barbarians against the Wallabies in London on November 26.
