Deported Fiji Times Publisher Evan Hannah is not automatically a Fiji citizen by law although he married a Fiji Citizen.
When questioned on whether Hannah being married to a Fiji citizen automatically gives him citizenship, lawyer Tevita Fa said under the law, if a non-Fiji citizen is married to a Fiji citizen, he has to apply to become a citizen of Fiji.
Fiji Times lawyer John Apted echoes the same sentiment saying that he is unaware whether Hannah applied for Fiji citizenship after marrying Dr Katarina Tuinamuana.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Media Council stresses that the media in Fiji will not be intimidated and will continue to carry out its duty, in light of the interim government deporting Hannah yesterday morning.
Media Council Chairman Daryl Tarte has stressed that such moves will not sway the media and will not stop them from reporting the truth to the public.
