HIV/ AIDS in the workplace is a serious issue and one that people need to be made aware of.
These are the words of HIV Team Leader Sevuloni Ratu who is currently conducting a 3-day HIV In The Workplace Workshop here in Suva with 15 instructors from Labasa, Rakiraki and Lautoka.
Ratu said the epidemic poses a major threat to the world of work because it affected the most productive segment of the labour force - those between the ages of 19 and 49 years.
Ratu added that based on the increasing number of people infected with HIV, it is important that there is wide coverage on this subject and by educating more workplaces on the impacts of this epidemic, it is expected that sensitization will bring about greater awareness and behaviour change.
According to the Red Cross there are currently 265 reported cases of HIV and AIDS in Fiji today.
