The Housing Authority today signed a $70 million contract with a Chinese construction company for the development of 184 acres of land in Tacirua East and for the construction of the PRB flats in Raiwaqa and Raiwai.

Housing Authority chairman Colonel Samuela Saumatua revealed this morning that the China Railway Group construction project will benefit both the Housing Authority and the Public Rental Board, in terms of providing affordable vacant lots as well as housing units for middle and low income earners.

For the Housing Authority, it will develop 184 acres of land in Tacirua, comprising 1050 residential lots, housing units, and a commercial centre.

This will assist more than 2,500 families.

Furthermore, 550 PRB housing units will also be constructed in Raiwaqa and Raiwai.

According to Colonel Saumatua, the soft loan funding for these projects is expected to come from the EXIM bank of China.
