The Sugarcane Growers Council is trying to secure funding for the sugar industry from overseas donors.
Chief Executive Surendra Sharma said following a delay in the release of funds from the European Union (EU) they approached the Australia and New Zealand government however it was turned down.
According to Sharma the industry urgently needs assistance.
