Grave concerns on tourist hassling
President Mahendra Singh said that he is happy that measures will now be taken to see that tourists are not harassed in any way.
He said this is a time to get more tourists in the country to help take the country forward financially and these type of actions not only spoils the tourists stay in Fiji but affects the Handicraft Centre too.
Singh's comment comes after it was highlighted on Fijivillage how tourists onboard the cruiseliner the Pacific Dawn expressed frustration at being harassed by street vendors and hawkers earlier this week.
The Tourism Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum called on the stakeholders in the tourism industry to urgently address the issue saying it is a concern that this has been happening and the authorities should act quickly to ensure that this is now a thing of the past.
The Suva City Council Special Administrator Marica Hallasey said it is an urgent matter which needs to be looked into adding they intend to also appoint special security personnel to assist tourists and ensure they enjoy their visit to the capital.
