A Lautoka grandmother was able to save her five year old and six year old grandchildren from a blaze which saw their top storey flat completely destroyed.

Fire Authorities received an emergency call at about midday yesterday and rushed to Simla, only to find very little water in the hydrants.

Divisional Fire Officer Western, John Pillay said a total of three fire trucks had to be used and adds that the fire was a difficult one for them to contain, due to the lack of water.

Meanwhile, Divisional Water engineer, Samuela Tubui said water supply in the Lautoka area is dependent on demand and at times, families in densely populated areas are affected.
