The Grand Pacific Hotel building will not be demolished.

While launching the new design for GPH last night, the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama revealed the building will be refurbished and not demolished due to the history it holds for Fiji and the Pacific.

Commodore Bainimarama said the GPH was the premier accommodation in Suva, with visiting dignitaries to Fiji and the South Pacific including members of the British Royal family staying at the hotel.

The project is a joint venture between the owners of the valuable property along the Suva foreshore, the Fiji National Provident Fund, the National Superannuation Fund of Papua New Guinea and PNG based Lamana Development.

The total project will cost more than $78 million and work is to start in November this year and is expected to be finish by the third quarter of 2013.
