Governments for the past twenty years have been living beyond their means and the Freedom of Information Bill and the Guideline for Civil Servants will see them being accountable to the public.

Addressing over 40 members of the public present at the forum in Navua on the issue of the civil service being too large for a small nation, NCBBF member, Ratu Meli Vesikula said Civil Service Charters needed to be introduced into all ministries and departments to ensure that performance standards are met.

In response to questions raised by a member of public on why the Government does not seem to address the issue of infrastructure needs in the rural areas, Vesikula said Governments in the past have allocated more money for wages and not for development.
