The government is now in negotiations with Qantas Airlines on a suitable price to acquire the Australian airline company's shares in our national carrier Air Pacific.
Qantas earlier made an offer to sell its 46% shares in Air Pacific and Director Civil Aviation Akuila Waradi said it is government’s intentions to try and buy these shares.
Air Pacific shareholders include the Fiji government with 51 percent, Qantas holds 46.32 percent with minor stakes held by Air New Zealand with 1.94 percent and the governments of Kiribati which has 0.27 percent, Tonga 0.27 percent, Nauru 0.08% and Samoa 0.12 percent.
