The government is yet to gazette the minimum standards requirements which will see the opening up of the e-ticketing market.
Only one company is the e-ticketing service provider at the moment and many buses do not have e-ticketing machines.
When questioned by Fijivillage on when the whole process will be complete and the date for the gazette, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said they have to ensure that all the minimum standards requirements are set before moving forward.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the current system will remain for now.
It was announced at the end of May that the government has intervened to open up the back and front end e-ticketing solution provider market, to Vodafone, Digicel and other new entrants, within the next three months.
Sayed-Khaiyum had said that regulations which will set out e-ticketing standards for bus operators should be gazetted soon.
He stated that a three month time-frame from the date the regulation is gazetted will be given for bus operators to choose which e-ticketing solution provider they will use, and those without machines are to have them installed.
Sayed-Khaiyum also highlighted that inter-operability is amongst the various standards that bus operators need to comply with under the new system so that passengers can use e-ticketing cards from any solution provider in any bus.
