The Interim Prime Minister stresses that the government will not give into the demands of the FICTU unions and the Fiji Nurses Association for the full restoration of the 5 percent pay cut.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama said cabinet has decided that they can only afford the 1 percent paycut restoration by December.
Although the Nurses Association has decided to go on strike from next Tuesday and FICTU union members are planning to walk out of their jobs on August 2nd, Commodore Bainimarama remains adamant that the government cannot afford to restore the full pay of the civil servants.
Interim Public Service Minister, Poseci Bune has revealed that if many Fijian Teachers Association members walk out of classrooms from some schools then the students will be shifted to nearby schools.
The exact details of the plan on how this will work will be revealed just days before August 2nd when the FTA members go on strike. Bune has also indicated that they are now looking at options to sub-contract the road works and water supply services to the private sector if the members of the Viti National Union of Taukei Workers and Public Employees Union go on strike.
He said they are also talking to retired nurses and nurses who are not members of the Fiji Nurses Association to ensure that hospital services are not affected.
