The government will soon call for expressions of interest for interested investors to set up a casino in Nadi.
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the casino license for One Hundred Sands Limited was revoked earlier this week.
He said the license was revoked as work is yet to start and One Hundred Sands is yet to pay up about $1 million in penalties for the delay.
Sayed-Khaiyum said $1 million has already been paid by One Hundred Sands however a further $1 million is outstanding at this stage and the government will pursue this issue further.
While answering opposition MP Viliame Gavoka=s question in parliament, Sayed-Khaiyum said best international practices will be used to select the new casino operator.
Opposition MP, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu then raised the question on why a referendum cannot be done on whether Fiji should have a casino.
Sayed-Khaiyum then said that it seems that if the opposition was in government, they would be even taking referendums for extending a sewer line.
He also said people keep learning until they die and no one knows everything.
However Sayed-Khaiyum said based on the questions and actions of the opposition, it is clear that the knowledge base is much more on the government side than the opposition side.
There were some interjections from the opposition on the constitution.
Sayed-Khaiyum said that the Opposition Whip, Ratu Isoa Tikoca is only in parliament because of the constitution.
