The government will generate an income of around $200,000 compared to the $17,400 it used to make before by renting out its quarters in Suva.

The Permanent Secretary for the Public Service, Mr Parmesh Chand said that these quarters in the Muanikau and Domain areas were rented for just $134.00 per month whereas now since rent is going to be paid by the tenants on market price, the new rental price ranges from $1000 $2500 depending on the quarters grade.

He said there are altogether 200 government quarters within the Muanikau and Domain area.

Chand adds that they have so far rented out 10 quarters at market rate and this comprises of 8 out of the 12 quarters undergoing renovation and 2 previously without renovations.

He said that another ten quarters has been identified for renovation and work on them would begin soon.

He said since the announcement of quarters for rent, there has been positive responses by members of the public because of the centrality of government quarters around Suva.
