The Fiji government is now seriously exploring its options after a proposal put forward by Qantas Airlines intending to sell its own 46% shares in our national airline, Air Pacific.
Director Civil Aviation Akuila Waradi said that the government is in the process of indentifying experts to assist them scrutinize the offer from Qantas.
Waradi adds that a final decision will be made on the offer, once they have established the value of the shares in Air Pacific and establish a price at which it would be beneficial to government to acquire shares.
Qantas announced earlier this year its intentions to sell its stake in Air Pacific as it reviews its worldwide operations.
Air Pacific shareholders includes the Fiji government with 51 percent, Qantas hold 46.32 percent with minor stakes held by Air New Zealand with 1.94 percent and the governments of Kiribati which has 0.27 percent, Tonga 0.27 percent, Nauru 0.08% and Samoa 0.12 percent.
