Thirty overseas scholarships for different areas will be awarded by the government next year.

Based on the submission by the Prime Minister and Minister for Public Service Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama the cabinet has approved the reintroduction of overseas scholarships from next year.

Bainimarama says there were certain critical areas to the nation's workforce that were not catered for by the current scholarships.

He added that scholarships will be awarded to areas such as soil chemistry, food technology, surveying, veterinary science, agricultural economy, trade and HR specialty, medical specialist fields namely urology, psychiatry, neurology, paramedics, psychology, geology, hydrology, forestry, timber and silviculture, digital electronics, geographical information system, tourism specialists, engineering, international relations and trade and town planning.

Bainimarama adds scholarships for these identified areas will contribute to the workforce and meet the demand in Fiji's labour market.
