People who have had their homes totally destroyed by Hurricane Tomas will receive help from the government when all assessment reports are finalized, which is being done today.
DISMAC’s Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui said the issue of rehabilitating those who have completely lost their homes will be dealt with, after the final reports are submitted, adding it will be the standard assistance that is given to people following a natural disaster.
Meanwhile, Save the Children Fiji CEO said the cost of school items and lunch to be provided to students affected by Hurricane Tomas will reach more than $500,000.
Chandar Shekhar said they only have $100,000 to spend and will need donations to cover the needs of the children.
He said a few schools are yet to submit the actual number of students needing assistance however the figures they currently have totals to 6,583 out of which 4,630 students need lunch.
Shekhar said they expect the schools to send in their student numbers by tomorrow after which further steps can be taken.
