Govt reallocates FM radio and TV frequencies
Communications Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said consultations are now underway with the radio and TV station operators in the country to ensure that they move to the reallocated frequencies by the set date.
He said the only stations that will stay on the same frequency on the radio dial are those that are branded stations by frequency.
Sayed-Khaiyum said with the reallocation of FM station frequencies, four additional national radio channels are now available in Fiji.
There are also changes in relation to the television stations with the new state owned TV station channel allocation and current Pay TV channels moving to the UHF channel.
Sayed-Khaiyum said those TV stations that are currently using VHF channels for Pay TV will have to move to UHF channel by a set date.
It has also been confirmed that the new state owned FBC TV station will be allocated a VHF channel to operate their free-to-air-service.
He said the new spectrum allocation suits the national agenda and people have to understand that this is the best step to take for Fiji.
