The government is planning to have a tertiary hospital in the country as well as upgrade all the other hospitals.

It will be spending $9.4 million worth of equipment in all the hospitals ranging from theatre lights, operating tables, all intensive care facilities, CAT scanners and other equipment.

The Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma said there are plans to give CAT scanners at the major hospitals in Lautoka and Labasa.
 
He said he wishes to see local surgeons undertaking kidney transplant and breast cancer patients being fully treated in Fiji.

He said they are trying to develop a tertiary hospital to train the local surgeons and provide the essential medical treatment locally however this is in a planning phase currently.
