Money is allocated for emergency situations such as the carting of water and it is normal procedure that Government is given a time frame to pay costs.
Permanent Secretary at the Provincial Development Ministry Manasa Vaniqi made the comments in relation to an article in one of the dailies that stated that the Commissioner Western's Office owes money to companies for the service of carting water to areas that have been affected by the dry weather condition.
Vaniqi stressed that there is a special allocation set aside in the annual budget for situations such as the one faced in the Western Division.
Meanwhile, despite the dry weather conditions, there is no cause for alarm at this stage for the residents in the Western division who are receiving piped water supply through the Water Authority of Fiji.
The Public Utilities Ministry has today confirmed that water levels at the major reservoirs in the Western Division are at a healthy level and it will not affect their supply.
Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said the Water Authority's latest update on reservoirs in the Western Division indicates there is no cause for alarm to areas which are supplied within their metered grid, as the levels are at a satisfactory level.
She added that this applies for all the major reservoirs up to Ba.
