The government intends to import around 500 dairy cattle next year in efforts to increase milk production by up to 25 percent from current levels.
Member of the Rewa Dairy Board and Director of Dairy Farms Fiji, David Wilson said this will be a major boost for the dairy industry and will be a step to achieving their target of one day becoming self sufficient in dairy production.
Meanwhile, Wilson revealed to Fijivillage that despite the devastating impact on the dairy industry due to the outbreak of the cattle disease, brucellosis, local milk production is up by 10 percent this year.
