The government has extended the State of Natural Disaster declaration to another 30 days.

Permanent Secretary for National Disaster Management Meleti Bainimarama says the declaration is effective from tomorrow.

He says this decision will allow officials to continue to provide relief and rehabilitation support in affected areas.

Bainimarama says this includes areas where basic services and facilities are limited including water, housing and electricity.

He also says this will allow health authorities to make provision against any possible disease outbreak, especially in severely affected areas.

This extension will be in effect until the 19th of next month.
