Government has dissolved the National Road Safety Council and has merged it with the Land Transport Authority.

This has been done through the Land Transport Amendment Decree 2010, which came into effect last Wednesday.

The objective of the decree is to add to the existing functions of the Land Transport Authority, the role of the National Road Safety Council to avoid duplication of functions and to allow for a transition of employees, assets, funds and resources from the National Road Safety Council into the LTA.

The National Road Safety Act 1994 has also been revoked.

According to the Decree the merger will establish and maintain financial control and auditing of funds to ensure that maximum benefits are derived in road safety activities and to coordinate or implement any other aspects of road safety as may be referred time to time.

The Decree further states that the Authority, employ all of the staff of the National Road Safety council which is dissolved by this Decree.
