The Sports Minister has today stressed that the government has not interfered in the affairs of the Fiji Rugby Union.
Filipe Bole said the government's only concern is that it will not give $3M for the Rugby World Cup to the current board and management due to the lottery saga.
He also stressed that the FRU board members also stepped down voluntarily.
Now the Fiji Rugby Union has decided to cancel the Special General Meeting scheduled for this Saturday, based on advice from the International Rugby Board that there should be no changes within the senior management structure of the FRU at this stage.
But Bole maintained that the government will only give the $3M to a new board.
Bole said the government does not want to say anything in relation to the cancellation of the Special General Meeting.
FRU's Interim Chairman, Rafaele Kasibulu also confirmed to Fijivillage today that their resignation was voluntary.
Senior IRB officials will be in the country soon to assess the FRU's situation.
