Government has collected close to $16 million in overdue rates from local Municipalities around the country.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Local Government Maraia Ubitau said government is owed more than $22.5 million in overdue rates and in the first three months of this year has managed to collect close to $16 million, leaving close to $8.5 million outstanding.
Ubitau attributes the increase of collection to the overall restructure and reforms undertaken within local town councils, particularly the changes in the administration of towns.
She added that every month the different Councils submit a report on how much they have collected.
