The Fiji government said it cherishes its membership of the Commonwealth and it also believes that the Commonwealth can partner with Fiji to resolve its longstanding challenges.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the Commonwealth needs to understand Fiji's situation and he hopes that Fiji is not suspended from the group on the 1st of next month.
Sayed-Khaiyum said Commonwealth officials can also come to Fiji and hold talks with the officials about the roadmap to democracy and how they can assist.
He said people should not focus on the ultimatum of September 1st, but look at how consultations and dialogue can be held.
