Interim Local Government minister Lekh Ram Vayeshnoi has stated that the interim government is serious in addressing the problems faced by those living in the Muanivatu squatter settlement in Vatuwaqa.

Vayeshnoi told FijiVillage that he had a meeting with the Director for Housing and has asked him to compile a report of the issue and will see what can be done after the report is handed back to him.

However, residents living in the area are asking for the interim goverment to look into the issue quickly as they have been given till the end of the month to move out.

Speaking on behalf of the residents of Muanivatu in Vatuwaqa, head of the Peoples Community Network Mesake Dakai, said most of the residents are poor and from the outer islands, and they want to be relocated somewhere near the Suva area.
