The Consumer Council of Fiji has called on the interim government to make arrangements for the removal or decrease in duty on flour and sharps in the 2008 National Budget expected to be announced by the Interim Finance Minister this Friday.
Council CEO Premila Kumar said government must subsidize duty on these basic needs as many people are being hit hard by the increase in prices.
Meanwhile, some bakeries and cake shops have confirmed that price of cakes and bread is expected to increase from next week as they are still determining the prices.
Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry could not be reached for comments.
