The Interim Health Minister said the government needs to conduct a comprehensive scoping exercise and feasibility study on Emergency Ambulance Services in Fiji.

Dr Jiko Luveni said EAS deals with life threatening situations and speedy arrival of emergency vehicles could mean the difference between life and death for a seriously injured or ill person and EAS should be called during medical emergencies only.

She adds that currently there are no specific legislations covering the means by which ambulance services are organized, funded and provided.

She also said that a scoping study on an Air Ambulance Trust will also be carried out given that there is also no air ambulance operated by the Government.
