Fiji Sports Commission has confirmed that the government will give $800,000 to the Fiji Rugby Union to assist the Vodafone Flying Fijians preparations to the Rugby World Cup in September.

Fiji Sports Commission chairman Peter Mazey says that the FRU has also relooked at their budget which has been reduced from $5 million to $1.5 million.

Mazey says that the $5 million that FRU needed earlier is inclusive of the player allowances, accommodation and travel before and during the Rugby World Cup.

The players will spend a month in camp during the Pacific Nations Cup and then 35 days before the Rugby World Cup then almost a month and half in England.

In a press conference last week, FRU CEO Radrodro Tabualevu says with the Pacific Games sports looking for funds, rugby will have to wait and will get a small opportunity to fundraise.

While the FRU may get some of its much needed funds from the upcoming Test matches, one of which is with the NZ Maori All Blacks, it is looking to the public for support.
