The 2007 Population and Housing Census has begun as of yesterday and even after one day, those responsible say there has been a good response from the public.
Census Director, Epeli Waqavonovono said that if people do see enumerators in their areas to welcome them in as conducting the census is very important.
Interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, in a statement released added that the statistics obtained are essential in indicating those people and regions in greatest need, and to identify the best way to use scarce resources in the improvement of health, education and infrastructure development.
The 2007 Census is being undertaken after a lapse of 11 years and it is likely to cost the Government in excess of $6 million dollars.
