Good nutrition leads to a longer life.

This was highlighted by Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni to participants of the Food-Base Dietary Guidelines Workshop at the Tanoa Plaza this morning.

Dr Luveni said nutrition or improvement in our diet should be a priority strategy if we are to improve our health, adding Fiji is in transition in terms of health and nutrition and we are faced both with under-nutrition and over-nutrition.

Dr Luveni urged the participants to examine the current nutrition-related problems in Fiji, the foods consumed, sources of food supply, diets of major ethnic groups and the problems that could be effectively addressed by the Food-Based Guidelines.

Dr Luveni said it is our collective concern and responsibility, government and private sectors alike, to make Fiji's population healthy and productive.

The workshop ends tomorrow.
