Good news for our former soldiers.

Out of the 289 servicemen who were affected by nuclear tests on Christmas Island, between 1952 and 1958 only 60 are expected to meet in Suva this week to discuss their compensation.

This is after a court decision at a British court ruled in favour of soldiers including the Fijian veterans for the ill effects they experienced fifty years ago.

One of the former Territorial Forces soldier, Sergeant Jone Tabaiwalu, who was part of the cleaning up operation in 1958, said the families of the fallen comrades will also be part of this compensation.

Meanwhile, two British lawyers who are defending the case are currently in the country and will be present in a meeting tomorrow for the surviving member war veterans.
