75 families in a squatter settlement area in Badrau, Ba will soon receive land titles and leases for 99 years.

The Ministry of Local Government had earlier revealed that squatter settlements is a major problem in the country as 60,000 of the population live in over 200 squatter settlements with majority in the Suva to the Nausori corridor.

105 families in Vatoa Settlement in Narere and 147 families in Lakena Hill in Nausori have already received land titles and lease from government.

Ministry of Local Government, Urban Development and Housing Media Liaison Officer Vula Shaw said the government is doing its best to address the squatter settlement issues such as development work, upgrading and formalization of informal squatter settlements.

$2 million is set aside by the ministry to facilitate all works that include squatter upgrading projects and infrastructures.
