Good News for consumers.
While making the announcement this morning, Commission Chairman Thomas Raju revealed that all local inter-region calls be reduced by 10% and reduction in international calls by 20%.
Calls made to mobiles through fixed phones will also be reduced by 10%.
For mobile to mobile calls, peak or off-peak charges will be reduced by 10%. This will benefit prepay and post pay customers. There is no change in texting charges.
Raju said there will also be a 20% reduction in retail internet dial up. He added this determination will be for eight months as he will seek further extension on this in June next year.
He added that while customers will largely benefit from the reduced costs, carriers will benefit from demand volume. Raju believes he had a series of meetings with Telecom, Vodafone and Fintel and a copy of the determination has been sent to them.
Telecom, Vodafone and Fintel are expected to comment later today.
