"Locally produced goods should be given more prominence"
This was the issue discussed at the "Made in Fiji" and "Buy Fiji" consultations held today in Suva.
The initiative by the Government is geared towards the promotion of local products.
Speaking at the workshop Chief Guest ,Attorney General Aiyaz Saiyaad Khaiyum said local goods need to be distinguished from imported goods as some handicraft goods sold as Fijian products are really manufactured overseas.
Also part of the key Discussions held was the need to allocate more space on supermarket shelves for local goods.
Consumer Council Chief Executive Officer Premila Kumar said that
local goods are not getting the same prominence in sales and merchandising as imported goods.
The workshop was attended by nearly one hundred participants.
