A 13-year-old student of Laqere Settlement is believed to have drowned in the Naibulivatu River yesterday morning.
The girl was swimming with friends when she disappeared.
A search was conducted by family and friends and her body was later recovered.
She was pronounced dead at the CWM Hospital.
Police say a post mortem will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
The drowning toll currently stands at 22 compared to 23 for the same period last year.
