The Fiji Police Traffic Control Division is advising all drivers about the dangers of driving while being tired.

According to police, driver fatigue is a major cause of motor vehicle accidents since sleepy drivers are often unable to make rapid decisions and may have slower reaction times.

Director Traffic Control Senior Superintendent of Police Mahesh Mishra said the lack of quality sleep is a primary cause of fatigue.

He said the risks of fatigue go up dramatically from 10pm onwards, especially for people who work unusual hours or who may have sleep disorders.

They advise that drivers set aside time for breaks during trips to prevent fatigue, as it is better to pull over and be a bit late then get into an accident.
