Fiji is sitting on a hotspot for geothermal energy, which is being commercially tapped, for first time and interim minister for Mineral Resources confirmed that two companies had been given the green light to start exploration work as soon as possible.

Netani Sukanaivalu told FijiVillage that there was enough evidence to show that geothermal energy, the underground hot rocks and hot springs, can be harnessed in Fiji and may lead to easing the use of fossil fuels.
