The Water Authority of Fiji has revealed that backup generators to see that water supply is not affected when there is a power shutdown, is expected to be up and running in about six months time.
This follows water disruptions due to a power blackout last week which saw the three pumps at the Savura pumping stations fail.
Team manager corporate communications Michelle Tevita Singh said while a lot of promises have been made in the past regarding the obtaining of generators, this time around they are sure of having the generators in the country by the end of the year.
Singh said that when a power cut occurs these generators will ensure that the pumps at the reservoirs continue working.
As a result, these generators will be installed at the Waila Treatment Plant, the Waila Pumping Station, the Wainibuku Reservoir and the Savura pumping station.
According Singh, these four areas supply large areas in the Central Division, which has also been encountering repeated problems throughout the year.
