Women in Fiji and around the globe continue to fight an uphill battle when it comes to gender equality and recognition.

USP Pro Vice Chancellor Adi Eci Nabalarua addressing guests at the 9th anniversary of the UN 1325 Declaration said that it has been nine years since the Declaration was passed by the UN Security Council and many member countries still face difficulties implementing the policy.

Nabalarua also said that with the upcoming UN meeting on the Declaration in Beijing, she hopes that all member countries including Fiji will be able to note the contribution of women in media and bridge the commitment between the gap between policy commitment and action.

Acting Australian High Commissioner, Sarah Roberts also revealed that the Australian Government has set aside $6.2 million dollars allowing the Australian University to study the implementation and effects of the UN 1325 Declaration in Fiji and East Timors.
