The Chief Justice Anthony Gates has sought an explanation from the Australian High Commission in Suva on whether their travel restrictions apply to the members of the Judiciary.
After the visa application for Judge Justice Anjala Wati was denied earlier by the New Zealand High Commission, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khiayum revealed that Justice Gates has also written to the Australian High Commission on the matter.
In response to questions sent to the Australian High Commission by Fijivillage, High Commissioner James Bately confirmed that Australia's travel restrictions also cover judicial appointments.
However, in relation to the letter from Justice Gates on the matter, Bately said he does not propose to comment on private correspondence addressed to him.
Meanwhile, it is understood that Justice Wati and her son have since been informed that they will be granted a visa by the New Zealand High Commission, for her 20 month old baby to travel for an eye operation.
