Garment exports earnings are slowly improving however it’s not as high as nine years ago when it used to bring in over $300 million in export income.

Last year garment export raked in over $100.1 million compared to $97 million in 2007.

In 2000, garment exports brought in $322 million which started decreasing from 2001 and the lowest garment earnings was in 2006 when only $94.9 million income was brought in. Since then export earnings improved.

Reduction in the world trade rules and competition in the world market affected the garment industry forcing closure of some garment factories and many losing their jobs.

Thousands of people are dependent on Garment Industry as there are hopes that industry will further improve this year.
